- The National Biology Olympiads have been launched in Independent and private schools under the supervision of the Department of Education Guidance at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
- This is in preparation to Qatar’s participation in the International Biology Olympiads (IBO). Qatar's team consists of four students, the Ministry said yesterday on its official website.
- The National Biology Olympiads take place in three rounds. The first round will include more than 350 high school students from private, international and government schools. The participants will sit for theoretical test consisting of 60 multiple choice questions and 25 per cent of the students will go to the second stage.
- In the second round in February and March, students will undergo practical testing measuring their skills dealing with questions similar to those of the IBO. A total of 30 students will be selected for the third and final round.
- The third round in March and April will see students appearing in theoretical tests answering 10 questions similar to the IBO. The best four will be chosen to participate in the IBO 2017 which will include plant biology, biochemical and physiology.
