About Panini Linguistic Olympiad:
Panini Linguistics Olympiad (PLO) is the Indian national program for selection and training of the candidates who represent India in the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL). The program is coordinated by the Microsoft Research Labs India, JNU Delhi, International Institute of Information Technology-Hyderabad, and University of Mumbai, and actively supported by Regional coordinators across the country including Chennai Mathematical Institute, IIT Guwahati, SNLTR Kolkata, and IIT Patna.The main purpose of PLO is to create awareness of linguistics amongst students of the country, and popularize the fields of Linguistics and Computational Linguistics are areas of further study and research.
Syllabus:
No prior knowledge of Linguistics or languages is required to solve the puzzles.
Even the hardest problems require only logical reasoning, patient work and out-of-the-box thinking.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Students who are either Indian citizens or currently studying in a school in India are eligible for the contest (provided they meet the other eligibility criteria stated below). But note that we do not have any test centres abroad for non-resident citizens of India.
A student is NOT eligible for competing in PLO if s/he is planning to compete or have already competed and awaiting results for the national linguistics Olympiad of any other country leading to the participation in IOL 2018.
Students currently studying in class 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th MUST compete in the senior category.
Students currently studying in class 6th, 7th and 8th MUST compete in the junior category. - Students who have attended any of the past PLO round 2 orientation-cum-selection camp and are eligible to write the test otherwise, MUST opt for the senior category even if they study in class 8 or below.
Students who have qualified for or represented India in IOL 2017 are directly eligible for round 2 and the camp, and need NOT compete in PLO round 1.
The PLO 2018 Executive Board reserves all rights to disallow or disqualify any candidate from competing in the contest. The decision of the board on any disputes regarding the rules, eligibility and selection criteria shall be considered as final.
Level of Exam:
Each participating country sends 1-2 teams of four contestants each. The methods of choosing these contestants and composing the teams differ from country to country; in most cases a country's contestants are chosen from the winners of their national Linguistics Olympiad. Registration Process:
Online Registration will open for PLO-2018 on 16th November 2017 (5 PM onwards).
In order to take part in the contest, you MUST register online and pay the registration fee. Registration and payment must be done before to avail the Early-Bird discount. Once you completed the processes, you will receive an email from us that you have now successfully registered for the contest (Please register only once per candidate).
