About:
The Sri Lankan Junior Science Olympiad is organised by the Institute of Physics of Sri Lanka to promote science among school students and expose them to the skills of problem solving, reasoning, etc. The test also acts as a prelim exam for the International Junior Science Olympiad.
Syllabus:
The syllabus of the exam consists of physics, chemistry, biology and maths taught to the students in class 6-11 in Sri Lanka. The exam is available in English, Sinhala and Tamil.
Marking Scheme:
The paper consists of 50 Multiple Choice Questions based on the prescribed syllabus. The paper consists of roughly 15 questions on Biology, 15 of Chemistry, 10 of Physics and 10 of Mathematics. However, note that these numbers can change slightly.
Eligibility Criteria:
The students should be less than 16 years of age as of 31st December of the applying year (31st December 2018 for the 2018 Olympiad).
Level Of Exam:
The questions are made so as to not be too straight-forward but still be interesting to the students and something that they can relate to. They are made to test the logical and problem solving skills of the students.
Exam Dates:
The date of exam is 7th April 2018 this year and the last date to apply is 29th March 2018.

Registration process:
- Pay the registration fees to the account and get the payment slip: Account – Sri Lankan Junior Science Olympiad, Bank – Bank of Ceylon, Branch – Torrington Square, Acc. No: 78341015
- Log in on the Institute of Physics website http://www.ipsl.lk/ and select Sri Lankan Junior Science Olympiad
- Fill in the application form and click confirm
- Download the admit card and place the signature, passport size photo, etc on the appropriate places
- Get the admit card attested by one of the following
Principal/ Deputy Principal of the College/School, Justice of Peace, Incumbent of a temple (church or Mosque), and any government officer bears an official rubber stamp
Benefits, Awards and Scholarship:
The best students are awarded medals and certificates. The top students are invited to the International Junior Science Olympiad under the guidance and support of the Institute of Physics.
