About Sri Lankan Mathematics Competition:
Sri Lankan Mathematics Competition is part of the Sri Lankan Mathematics Olympiad along with the Sri Lankan Mathematics Challenge Competition. These two challenges together help to select the students who will be representing Sri Lanka in the International Mathematics Olympiad. The competition is designed to be an enjoyable and of sufficient interest so that the students can relate to it later on as well.
Syllabus:
The competition consists of basic grade 9 maths. Detailed list of topics under this is not given by the authorities. However, it is important to note that the questions are not straight-forward and hence while preparation, the application point of view of the syllabus should be given importance.
Marking Scheme:
The competition includes 30 challenging Multiple Choice Questions with a time limit of 90 minutes and is modeled to create an interest in mathematics. The Sri Lankan Mathematics Challenge Competition (SLMCC) on the other hand consists of 5 essay type questions with 4.5 hours time limit.
Eligibility Criteria:
The Sri Lankan Mathematics Competition is open to any student studying in any local or international school. The first 30 students will be invited to the Sri Lankan Mathematics Challenge Competition (SLMCC).
Level of Exam:
The questions designed for the students to encourage them and increase their interest in the mathematics taught to them in schools. It is designed not to be straight forward but yet be interesting. It is created such that the students can relate it to their lives or daily experiences. As such, the questions are challenging and sophisticated. It helps to cultivate an interest in maths and change the point of view of students towards mathematics.
Exam Dates:
The competition will be held on April 7, 2018. The process for registration is still on. If you didn’t fill the form for the exam on time, then you will have to wait for the next year. The schedule for the same is yet to be displayed.
Cut-Off:
The marks of the students are not displayed by the authorities but the list of the toppers is. You can check the names of the previous toppers here

Registration Process:
The registration can be done as school candidate or as a private candidate. In order to register as a school candidate, talk to a teacher at your school and follow the procedure explained by them.
